Yes, your Notes are safe at Notechat. As the model is running locally on your device, your data is not shared with anyone. Soon there will also be a cloud version which also only accesses Large Language Models that are hosted in the EU.

Notechat is a desktop app that allows you to chat with your Apple Notes. The LLM is running locally on your device, but we are also working on a cloud version.
Yes! We offer a cloud version that uses hosted Language Models. While this version requires a small subscription fee to cover the LLM costs, it provides several advantages: immediate setup without local installation and faster responses. Your data remains private and is never used for training or shared with third parties. The subscription helps us maintain secure, dedicated infrastructure while keeping your notes confidential.
If you're experiencing issues with the local setup, try these manual installation steps:
Install Homebrew
Open Terminal and paste this command:
Install Ollama
After Homebrew is installed, run:
Then download the Llama model:
Restart Ollama
If Ollama is installed but not working properly, try restarting it:
Then start it again:
Restart Notechat
After completing these steps, restart Notechat:
- Close Notechat completely (Cmd+Q)
- Wait a few seconds
- Open Notechat again
- Try connecting to your notes

If you have a large collection of notes (1000+) and experience issues during the extraction of your Apple Notes, you'll need to use the Terminal launch method:
Example: Processing a collection of 1,800+ notes
For Large Collections (1000+ notes):
- Close Notechat completely (Cmd+Q)
- Open Terminal (Press Cmd+Space, type "Terminal")
- Copy and paste this command:
- Re-connect to your Apple Notes and wait for setup to complete (may take several minutes)
- After completion, you can chat with your notes using Notechat normally
Note: This special launch method is only needed once during initial setup for large note collections. We are working on making Notechat more robust for power users.
